In the ~5 years I’ve been running (on and off) and the ~1 full year I’ve been running “seriously” (30+ miles per week), I’ve never really had any sort of injury. Nothing that lasted more than a day or two. But over the past few weeks, my feet have really been hurting. Specifically the bottom of my foot near my heel. I ruled out plantar fasciitis because my symptoms didn’t really seem to match (never had pain first thing in the morning, for instance)… until last Friday. I spent the day in New York visiting the Google office with the Women in Computer Science club, and my heel pain was so bad I had to walk on my toes.
Not really what I wanted to happen ~35 days before the national running club association’s half marathon.
So, in the interest of hopefully being able to run in April, I’m taking the week off running. That sounds really anticlimactic in writing, but if you’re a runner… you understand how difficult that can be. What makes it a little easier is that I’m home for spring break, so not running means I get to sit around my house and cook yummy food and drink coffee do Jillian Michaels DVDs instead.
A week off isn’t a bad idea though, looking at my training from the past two months…
Oy.

It seems like everyone is getting injured.
A lot of people in my club are injured. I have a stress fracture, Stephanie and Albert have stress fractures, Katie sprained her ankle, Justin is taking time off for shin splints… :/ Hopefully a week off will fix things for you.
Good luck with taking time off. I hope your injury heals and you can run the half! I think it would benefit me to take a few days off too but it’s so much easier said than done!
Thinking of you Erin and I hope your foot pain goes away rather quickly. Hopefully you got my email about rubbing a golf ball underneath or getting a deep tissue massage. You will make it through this and a week off will never kill any endurance! (I totally understand how hard it is though!).
Wow do great minds think alike I just saw you emailed me back LOL!
